The Living Room and Death
The Living Room and Death is an absurdist ensemble comedy about the peculiar intimacy of a family facing grief. Blending deadpan humor with moments of profound tenderness, the play explores the paradox of familial love, connections, and the lack of thereof. The play’s humor arises from the absurdity of its characters, who grapple with the profound and the trivial in equal measure, as if mocking their own futile attempts to make sense of the lifelong mystery that is mortality.
The narrative unfolds in a domestic setting, a mix of ordinary and extraordinary characters: five family members dealing with the loss of a loved one who are observed by the Angel of Death and Azazel, a fallen angel who brings a surreal and otherworldly presence to the scene, combining the human, inhuman, and supernatural in one place.
